Update: January 8, 2010
Since we receive so many of the same questions on the FFXIII Lightning Edition bundle, we're recapping them below so that the answers are readily available:
Q: Can I use the Lightning Edition PS3 in Europe?
A: Yes, the Lightning Edition PS3 contains an internal switching power supply which can handle 100V-240V and is designed to work anywhere in the world fresh out of the box.
Q: How about the video?
A: Japanese PS3 consoles output NTSC video only. If you reside in Europe or Hong Kong or any other country that uses the PAL video standard, you can still use a Japanese PS3 as long as your television supports both PAL and NTSC or if you are using an HDTV.
Q: Any chance of the prices dropping?
A: Unlikely at this point since supplies are scarce and the console is in demand.
Q: Are you supplying the Japanese version of the Lightning Bundle?
A: Yes, the version in our inventory is the Japanese territory hardware and not the Asian territory hardware which is bundled with a 3-prong power cord that won't fit power outlets in North America.

NCS Preorder Update
Update: December 8, 2009
New preorders for the FFXIII Lightning Bundle are welcome to ship next week. Please note the price has increased to US$709.90 due to the way Square Enix is allocating the bundles (4:100) according to how many copies of the game were purchased by a vendor. The conversion rate between the US dollar and the Japanese yen is also very unfavorable.

NCS Preorder Synopsis
Update: September 28, 2009
«©NCSX» Male leads have dominated the rosters of RPGs since the olden days of gaming when titles such as Wizardry and Ultima captured the imagination of players. Back then, there was nary a lass to be found except maybe as a scullery maid in Lord British's castle. Or something like that.
Square diverges from convention by making a girl named Lightning the lead heroine in the upcoming Final Fantasy XIII. Lightning is a reasonably attractive strawberry blonde and we think she likes the color pink. How else to explain the design of the FFXIII Lightning Edition bundle which features a pink etching of Lightning on the top of the ceramic white console? The lettering for "Final Fantasy XIII" located on the lower-left corner is also pink but the engraved "PS3" is grey which balances out the pinkish hues. Lightning looks to the left while hefting up a crooked sword that might be mistaken for an oversized fountain pen.
The FFXIII PS3 includes a 250GB hard drive, a ceramic white Dual Shock 3, and standard cabling to hook everything up. Pricing for the FFXIII bundle is set at JPY41,600 but vendors are charging a premium over the retail price due to potential shortages.
Dollar/Yen Cross
The US dollar's been traveling on a downward slope against the Japanese yen over the past few weeks which has been painful to watch. Every time we think it's going to bounce, any strength eventually peters out and the dollar breaks down further. It dropped 1.6200 against the yen on Friday and it's sliding again by 0.24 this morning. Due to the weakness of the dollar and our inability to peer into the future, pricing for the FFXIII Lightning Bundle is tentative and may change in the event the dollar's value continues to erode precipitously against the yen. Distributors may also charge a premium for the Lightning bundle if supplies are short-shipped from Square Enix. NCS will contact customers before processing any orders if the price changes to obtain re-confirmation.

Sony hasn't gone overboard with Playstation 3 console variants in the past few years. We're attributing the scarcity of variants to the relatively high price point of the console.

NCS will never know what Lightning of FFXIII really smells like because she's, um, not real. That little tidbit isn't stopping Square Enix from cooking up a bottle of perfume that might be what Lightning wears...

Lightning struck (sorry) when Final Fantasy XIII shipped on the Japanese Playstation 3 late last year to eager fans around the globe.

This edition of the system is beautiful and really captures the spirit not only of the FF series but also that characteristic clean and sharp Japanese craftsmanship. In short, this whole package truly is a work of art and worth every penny especially considering it's limited quantities.
If you're a true fan of the series or a serious collector you owe it to yourself to own this bundle.
MORE IMPORTANTLY: I have to say I ordered this from NCSX as an International buyer and I was wary of what condition it would arrive in. This was a huge concern for me due to the investment and the fact that I appreciate even the packaging and box art of this bundle. The staff at NCSX clearly understand what it's like to be a collector as they went above and beyond with extra care - they even double-boxed the package with plenty of paper/foam padding. By the time I received the package in Canada it was as if it had come directly off a retail shelf in Tokyo, I mean it was PRISTINE.
I am so impressed by the courteous service, fast communication, and mutual respect for videogame collectibles the staff at NCSX showed towards me. If you haven't ordered anything from here before, forget eBay - you owe it to yourself to buy from these guys - amazing service and care for the products they make available to the rest of us who wouldn't normally have access.
