NCS Product Synopsis
Update: February 23, 2006
«©NCSX» Take to the skies once again in a WWII zero fighter and change the course of history with successful completion of aerial missions and combat strafing runs. History changing missions that may be experienced include the bombing of Pearl Harbor, the sinking of the Yamato battleship, and many more missions for a total of 35 runs which is an additional 7 extra missions over the original Zero Shikikan game. Although the game only allows the use of a single Zero fighter at the outset of the game, there are a total of 60 fighters to be used in the missions once they're unlocked. Jet fighters featured in the game include the P-51, B-29 Bomber, Messerschmitt, and more from all components of the Axis and Allies including the USA, Great Britain, Germany, USSR, and Japan.
Two main game modes are available: MISSION MODE and VS MODE. To get your bearings, the early MISSIONs are relatively simple to maneuver through and achieve victory. The enemy fighters don't aggressively go after the player and just sort of fly through the air in a lazy formation. That's your cue to take each fighter out one by one.
Mission Mode is the meat of the game with 36 missions to participate in which progressively ramp up in difficulty and the VS Mode which allows two players to engage in dogfights and strafe each other.

NCS Game Notes & Spoilers
* In the intro to the game, old school zero fighter jets fly through the skies while the camera catches them in their sail as they attack, swerve, climb, and dive into theaters of conflict.

* In the map of conflict, Blue marks the player's Zero and Green arrows on the map indicate friendly aircraft. Enemy aircraft, ships, and ground troops are all colored a GOLDEN color. The upper left portion of the screen shows your compass heading and your fuel gauge + altimeter are located on the lower left. Success, Failure, and Damage bars are situated on the upper right portion of the screen and a speedometer checks you out on the lower right corner. When an enemy plane is within range, an arrow appears which indicates where he is along with distance.
* The ocean is non-descript and the skies are blue with hazy clouds but when you point your Zero at the sun and head directly for it, you'll get a very realistic glare effect which will blind you for a second as the heavens turn white for a second.
* In MISSION MODE, there are 14 main scenarios but only the first one may be played at the outset of the game. Upon clicking on the "O" button to start, you're presented with a "HISTORY OF PACIFIC WAR" where important events are listed by their respective dates and a description. You start the game on October 5, 1938 where you may visit the following options:
BRIEFING / A map indicates your target area and the objective(s) at hand
UNIT DEPLOYMENT / Fly off and engage the enemy
SELECT AIRCRAFT / Choose a plane to use - at the outset, only a standard Zero is available but more planes may be unlocked.
EXPLANATION / Learn more about the mission at hand
RECORDS / View the best pilots and their scores
* Before each mission, a clear condition is listed on the bottom of the screen which indicates what must be fulfilled before your mission is graded a success.
* In the VERSUS mode, the first two available scenarios are head-on dogfight against four enemy planes and an attack on a stanch of enemy battleships. The conditions of battle may be set before the conflict and the amount of wingmen on your side, the type of ballistics used, and the number of enemy interceptors and planes that the other side has may also be set before battle. In the VERSUS battleship run, as you get closer to the fleet, they'll start hammering the skies with anti-aircraft fire as you and comrades dive bomb and cause all manner of havoc. It's an exciting scenario which may stoke some fires.
* There are slots for 60 planes to use in the game. When selecting a plane, its attributes for ATTACK, DEFFENSE, MOBILITY, SPEED, RANGE, BOMB are listed on the left side of the screen. The standard Zero has high moblity and average speed but its attack and defense are weak.
