Hunted by a supernatural creature bent on destruction, the Prince is forced to live a life on the run. Prince of Persia: Warrior Within adds bone-slicing action into that recipe for success. The Warrior Within definitely comes out.

The scurvy opposition of zombified foot-soldiers and magical villains line up to get sliced and diced by the Middle East's one-man wrecking crew. The Prince's powerful blade will split opponents in two, vertically or horizontally. The Prince makes no bones about separating their heads from their bodies. Pretty gruesome way to go.

Although the blood and dismemberment gets most of the attention, it's the exciting combo system that takes center stage in the heat of battle. Watching the Prince battle is a lot like watching a kung fu movie. To be successful, he needs to use his environment to get the upper hand in battle. The Prince will run up walls, flip and slice. He'll grab a column and swing around it, slicing all within reach. He'll roll on the ground or flip off ledges to deliver a finishing blow. Combine that with a massive number of attack combos the Prince can perform, and you get a deep, deep fighting system. You don't have to use all the combos to be successful. Just find the ones that work best for your style and make your style his.

As the game progresses, the Prince learns valuable time-manipulation techniques that will help him exploit battle weaknesses of his enemies and himself. He will slow down his enemies while he fights at normal speeds. The Prince can also take back a bad attack or defense decision by rewinding time. As with Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, this manipulation of time also applies to non-combat situations.

If you're impressed by the fighting system, you'll be equally impressed with the environments and puzzles, if not more so. Each puzzle has so many levels to it, if you think you're out of the woods, you probably aren't. The shift in time during the game also gave the developers a chance to delve into two visual styles: one of light and glory and another of darkness and decay. Changes made in the grandeur of the past will affect the state of the ruins in the present. When you return to the present, the layouts of palaces will have changed, forcing you to rethink how to get out of a situation. It doesn't take much to lose all sense of time with this game. Not in the Prince's world--in your world. It's a jewel of a game in every aspect, and the difficulty and intensity will keep you glued to your seat. It's the kind of game you can enjoy just watching while someone is playing.
