NCS Product Synopsis
Original Update: April 11, 2006
«©NCSX» Military commander Yamanouchi Kagetora has a secret weapon - a rolling sphere of great heft known as the Odama which mows down legions of soldiers. Unfortunately for your own armies, the Odama makes no distinction between friend or foe and rolls over both with equal aplomb. The launching mechanism consists of a pair of pinball flippers located at the bottom of the screen. Slap the Odama with the right amount of English to curve it at enemy armies and to hit targets on the battlefield. Vocal instructions may be bellowed into the microphone to encourage your troops to press the attack and and to warn them away from the Odama's path of destruction.
Before each level, mission objectives are stated on the screen and key locations of battlefield targets are marked. The rest is up to you as your armies charge out of the gate and the Odama is fired onto the play board. Since the level is tilted downwards, Odama obeys gravity and continually rolls towards the bottom of the screen. To avoid losing Odama and your strategic advantage, hit it with the flippers to keep it in play.
Region Lock-out
Please note Japanese Gamecube games will not boot on USA or European Gamecube consoles due to the inherent region-lockout on Gamecube game discs.
NCS Game Notes
» The flippers are activated by tapping the L and R triggers. Similar to an actual pinball game, there's a tilt function where the battlefield is moved slightly to affect the trajectory of the Odama. Based on our play through this morning, there doesn't appear to be any restrictions on tilting and we weren't able to tilt ourselves out of the game or otherwise freeze the flippers due to an excess of tilt action.
» To use the microphone, press the "X" button on the Gamecube pad and vocalize your commands into the mic.
» When Odama rolls over soldiers, they may be seen flopping around as their bodies are crushed in the wake of the mighty projectile.
» Another secret weapon in Kagetora's arsenal is the rice ball which is launched into the battlefield by way of cannon. When the enemy soldiers spy the food, they'll amass around it like starving mongrels since free food hardly ever falls from the heavens. They distraction proves to be costly for their comrades who are immersed in battle.
