NCS Product Synopsis
Update: March 4, 2010
«©NCSX»When monsters kidnap children in the land of Batlando, the king summons soldiers to the castle and charges them with the rescue of the hapless tykes. In the first chapter, players take control of a soldier named Ryan, a princess known as Otenba Oujo (Tomboy Princess) in the second chapter, and three more heroes in the next couple of chapters. The final chapter features the entire team working together towards a common goal of defeating an evil king who's about to be resurrected.
The NDS remake of Dragon Quest IV updates the 8-bit Famicom original with Dragon Quest VII elements such as a polygonal world map, a 360° capable camera, animated monsters, a Monster Notebook, the Party Talk system, and improved visuals.
Prologue
The game begins in darkness and sword strokes may be heard followed by a smackdown. The screen is illuminated and the hero is lying prone on the floor while a warrior towers above him. It's only a practice match and no blood has been spilt. Rise up and bust open the urns and barrels to add some items to your inventory. Ascend the stairs to the north and back into town. Cross the bridge to the left and a frog will hop onto it from the water. The frog is actually a princess and she asks for the hero's help but before she lays it on the line, she shows him her Moshasu spell which changes her into any form she desires including a white rabbit. Before laying out her entire story, she tells the hero that his mother is calling for him and informs him that she'll meet him again tomorrow.
After this point, you'll be able to explore the town but your ultimate destination is home which is located to the left side of the burg. Once inside the house, speak to poppy and mama eventually throws supper on the table. She speaks about how the hero is likely to always stay close to home since he's such a momma's boy...
Chapter One
The first chapter begins inside a castle where a hero named Ryan and fellow soldiers are sent on a mission to discover the whereabouts of the missing children of the village. Movement is handled entirely through the d-pad and no stylus control is afforded. Exit the town and a world map is displayed on the top screen while the exploration takes place on the touch screen. When monsters are encountered, the fighting switches to a head-on view of the beasts and rudimentary controls for attack, magic, item use, and defense are shown by way of four icons. The top screen shows the hero's condition during battle. There's no stylus control or tapping action required and input is entirely made through the d-pad and face buttons.
The full name is Dragon Quest IV Michibikareshi Monotachi Ultimate Hits.
