NCS Product Synopsis
Update: January 26, 2006
«©NCSX» The subtitle of Canvas 2 translates to "Sketch of Rainbow" and the story focuses on the story of a once aspiring young artist who lost his ambition and became an art teacher at a well known institution. Those who can't paint, teach. As a teacher of art, five female students from three grades in the school (Elis Housen, Kana Hagino, Sumire Misaki, Mami Takeuchi, and Tomoko Fujinami) enter the protagonist's life and his job is to train, encourage, and find a student with promising talent and skill. Along with the students, a woman named Saya Saginomiya serves as a part time art tutor at the school and provides additional interaction. A seventh gal in the game is a childhood friend named Kiri Kikyou who transfers to the school and works as a physical education teacher. Along with the way, romance and love may blossom while art is being taught... Never mind the ethics.
New to the PS2 version is an improved "empathy" system which indicates the level of affection that a girl feels towards the player. It's not only the first impressions that count but how the player reacts to different situations as they are encountered which intensify the loving feelings of a girl.

* In the Options / Config submenu, the speed of the game and messages may be set. The Assist Icon and Emotion Effect screen indicators may also be toggled on or off along with Dual Shock vibration. In the Options / Sound submenu, gamers may set voice, BGM, and sound effects volume levels.
* After starting a game, enter your name or use the default moniker that appears. In the first scene, a girl (pink hair, purple sailor suit alias Kimi-chan) is sitting as a model for an art class in session. The teacher, may be seen in the right side of the screen while a younger version of the protagonist is seated in the background. The model and protagonist have a lengthy chat that sets up the prologue to the main storyline in the game. To advance the scene, press "O" and listen to the voice read-along which matches the dialogue that streams across the bottom of the screen. To turn off the voice, press the "TRIANGLE" or "R1" buttons. To review the dialogue history, press the L1 trigger and speed through the text by pressing L2. When inside the main game, pressing L2 performs a quick save while R2 does a quick load if you need to retrace.
* After the prologue, the date is December 1 and an insistent alarm is chirping. The protagonist opens his eyes and his bedroom may be inspected - there's an easel to the left, a painting hanging over the bed on the right, and a desk and bookcase in the background. Soon afterwards, little cousin Elis Housen appears (pink hair, blue eyes, green shirt - braids in her hair) to greet good morning. She hugs a cushion during the interaction and eventually gets dressed and sits down to have breakfast. She's now dressed in a pink sailor costume with a gold braid in front of her shirt and a big blue bow in back of her hair. As they're eating breakfast, the protagonist may be seen in the morning newspaper - he looks older than he was in the prologue and wears glasses perched precariously on his nose. He's wearing a red tie and purple suit.
* In the next scene, protagonist is at school where he walks into a classroom and is greeted by a pink haired girl with white bow on her hair named Kana Hagino. The empathy system is evident where a little thought bubble above her head shows sweat when she's unsure or nervous. Bells toll in the background to signal the end of the school day and everyone goes home.
* Back at home base, the protagonist flips once again to the newspaper when he's interrupted once again by little cousin...
