Bug Report
The Asian version of Star Ocean 3 will work with Japanese Playstation 2 consoles that are SCPH-30000 and up but please note that it may be incompatible with SCPH-10000 models. The first Japanese pressing of the game includes a bug which causes the game to freeze but players are still able to control their character during battle. Of course, it's nonsense to keep running about and you'll have to power down, causing the loss of progress in the game.
One fix to the SCPH-10000 lockup problem is to turn off voices in battle. This will stop the freeze bug mentioned above.
An occasional random bug which occurs throughout the game will cause your character to freeze while the game world continues to go on. The only solution we've found for this particular bug was to use Cliff as the main action hero. When using Fate, the random bugs tend to occur at a higher rate.

Main character Fate Linegod and family are visiting a resort planet where tropical plants and high tech structures grace the environs. Fate gets to wander around the resort a bit and teleport to and fro to get a feel for the game before he stumbles onto a battle simulator. Once engaged, Fate and friend battle a few enemies and gain experience. After a little while, the resort planet is attacked by alien invaders and Fate flees the planet, losing contact with his family...
Star Ocean 3 features a free-roaming battle system where Fate Linegod and comrades perform a range of actions as dictated by the player's joypad. An item creation system allows the production of weapons and shields as the occasion calls.
