NCS Game Notes - Updated June 12, 2006
» Developed by Indi Software for D3 Publisher.
» Upon starting the game, the player is inside an office where a gentleman in a brown suit with brown hair and a brown toothbrush mustache appears to be levitating. He fixes his tie every once in a while and stares ahead with a blank visage worthy of a mouth breather. After addressing you with orders to start a new town by way of text bubble ringed in light green, press the "O" button to proceed.
» In the next scene, players obtain a Visa to visit an island and create a character. Players may select a male or female protagonist and change the hairstyle, hair color, and the demeanor on the character's face. For example, it's possible to create a male character with pink shaggy hair and a mean looking face complete with perennial frown. Once the character is suitable, he drops from the sky onto an island and his cell phone rings immediately. Answer it by pressing the TRIANGLE button and you're holding a conversation with the boss man from earlier. He explains the basic controls and objectives in the early going as the protagonist builds a town from the ground up.
CONTROLS
L-Analog / Character movement
R-Analog / Camera movement - pan in and out, rotate, etc
X-BUTTON / Jump
TRIANGLE / Summon icon-based menu
» The icon-based menu consists of using the cell phone, building roads, constructing entire buildings from a list, and access game functions (save game, exit to menu).
» To start, select the WORK icon and lay down some road. As each segment of road is dropped, little workers may be seen carrying building supplies around. They'll soon erect lamp posts alongside every few steps on the road. After a few seconds, the road is lined with posts and the lights turn on to illuminate each section of road underneath the lamps.
» After selecting a few buildings to construct, the progress of the work may be viewed as the hero runs around the little isle. First, the foundation is laid down, the supports are set up, the floor plan is shown, and after a while, the entire building is finished and ready for use.
» Once the city has a few buildings completed, citizens may be seen walking around and the buildings may be entered to interact with the people inside. As the people begin to flock to the new city, commerce begins to occur and the amount of revenue collected is shown on the indicator to the lower-right corner of the screen.
» The game time follows the natural rhythm of night and day although the same music plays over and over again throughout the adventure. Sadly, there's no way to toggle it off. At night time, the construction activity at building sites stop until daybreak. As dawn hits, the street lights flicker off and shops open their doors to take on the day's customers.
» As the little town grows, well known franchises will choose your little burg to open up a chain. These are added to the available buildings list that may be selected. The first is a Pizza-La eatery which is manned by two uniformed workers. The next franchise is a Pizza Hut. People love their pizza. Additional franchises and retail chains that may be opened up include Kentucky Fried Chicken, Toys R' Us, Circle K, Lawson, Times24, and Tower Records.
» As the builder and progenitor of the town, players must run around and address the needs and concerns of the citizens. This involves interacting and speaking to people walking around the city and in the shops and buildings. The overall temperament of the citizens may be viewed by checking the gauge to the lower right corner of the screen with the smiley/frowny face above it. If you're not performing your duties, the overall satisfaction of the citizens drop and revenue flow stops...
» Matching Maker 2 is a simple city building simulation that allows players to immerse themselves in their own creations. Instead of overseeing the the city from above in a godlike overview, players get to check everything up close and personal. You roam around the town that you built, visit the shops, and interact with the citizens for a intimate interactive experience. As your friendship with the town folk grows, they'll form closer relationships with you and help out with their expertise and various skills to enhance the city.
