NCS Product Synopsis
Update: September 22, 2006
«©NCSX» To ensure that the male heir to the throne experiences life as a normal human to better himself, the family of God and his godlings go slumming on Earth. Samatarou Kamiyama is the eldest son of the Almighty and attends high school like an average teenager but is accompanied by an angel named Tenko. Samatarou's every whim is granted by his father Osamu, which Tenko tries to prevent since Sam must experience human life as a mortal. Joining the cast are goddess sisters Meme and Misa along with an overly flirtatious mom named Venus.

One day, a new transfer student named Kumiko Komori catches Sam's eye and he resolves to win her hand on his own and without intervention from poppy. God tries to interfere initially but his omnipotent hand is soon slapped out of the scene and things progress at their natural pace. Since Tenko has an attraction to Samatarou, a bizarre love triangle plays out with hilarity and hi jinx. The Playstation 2 Kamisama Kazoku game follows the storyline of the animation series closely where players take control of Samatarou and interact with Tenko and Kumiko as well as the supporting cast. To add another love interest to the story line, a third girl named Akane Himura is introduced in the game for a total of three possible romances to pursue.

NCS Game Notes
» In the intro to the game, Tenko, Kumiko, and a new girl named Akane Himura appear who has spiky orange tresses and a willowy frame. They don't do much in the static images of the intro but sort of stand there and pose for the camera.

Press START and the following options appear:
NEW GAME........Begin a new adventure as Samatarou
LOAD GAME.......Resume an adventure from memory card data
OPTION.............Set message speed, automatic parsing, and DS vibration
GALLERY............View character images, cinemas, and music

● The main gallery mode contains 6 pages which may be flipped through by pressing the L1 or R1 triggers. The first five pages each contain 12 secret images to unlock while the sixth page only contains 4 images to unlock.

● The music gallery contains 24 BGM selections to enjoy including the theme song of the game and a number of sprightly tunes which would fit right into any anime presentation....

» Six save slots are available for every 8M memory card.

» Upon starting a new game, a brightly lit street appears followed by Tenko whacking Samatarou with her book bag. Tenko may be seen on screen in a static image just as her brown book bag has just swung across Sam's frame. She looks angry. After a short conversation, she's smiling again and her demeanor changes from woman warrior to lovable angel.

» Kamisama is played like many other interactive adventures where there's copious amounts of text-based interaction and spot animations as the characters talk and show emotion. Sadly, the voice actors from the animation don't provide their vocal stylings and the game consists of dialogue only. The player is prompted to make a choice from two or three available options every once in a while which affects the path of the game and the reaction from the supporting characters. In the first hour of play, its mostly reading and the player is prompted about 6 times for input

» To review the script of what has happened, press the TRIANGLE button and a complete history of the dialogue appears. The d-pad or L-analog may be used to page through the reams of text.

» When Tenko gets angry, steam rises from her head and she raises her arms in frustration. He face also cringes into an unsightly interpretation of its former pleasantness. Tenko has a tendency to waffle between happiness and anger quickly and often, like an undulating wave of sea water.

» In the next scene of the game, Sam's friend Shinichi appears wearing a Kikumoto #13 t-shirt. He's later joined by Misa, Tenko, and then Kumiko. The boys are on the field later and playing soccer.

» Osamu appears every once in a while to meddle in Samatarou's affairs. When he appears, his face is centered inside a white bubble of sorts that floats in mid-air by itself or next to other characters and the dialogue commences from there.

» The dual shock vibration goes off whenever a female knocks Sam around with body blows. There's a good amount of that in the game.

» To toggle auto-forwarding of text dialogue, press the start button. If you've played the game already and are starting over for whatever reason, you can fast forward through the dialogue by pressing the SELECT button and all of the text will fly by in quick motion.

» After the first day of school, Samatarou and Tenko return home along with Kumiko to be greeted by Sam's mom Venus. She's dressed in an overly sexy maid's uniform complete with frilly cap, red bow, and garters. After a lengthy spell of interplay between Venus, Tenko, and Kumiko, the other members of the household (Osamu, Misa, and Meme) appear in butler and maid uniforms as if to prove a point.

» To save the progress in the game at any time, press the SQUARE button and then highlight the second (or yellow tabbed) option that appears. Press "O-Button" followed by another pressing of the "O" and the save slots menu will appear. Choose which slot to save in and press "O" once more.

» If the first episode of the Kamisama Kazoku animation had a theme, it would be "underpants."
